3 arrested for robbery, murder of businessman

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the loot and murder of a businessman in Civil Lines area, police said today.

Dharas Chahabra and his father Ashok were attacked by a gang of robbers near Civil Lines Metro station while returning home from their shop in Sadar Bazar on November 7. Both were stabbed and Ashok was also shot at by the gang members, who looted Rs 8.5 lakh from them, a police officer said.

Dharas died while undergoing treatment at St Stephen's hospital on November 12. A case of robbery and attempt to murder was registered at Civil Lines Police station. Murder charge was added after the death of Dharas, police said.
 

Following a tip-off, a team of Crime Branch officials arrested Dharmender Sokia near Desh Bandhu Road on Tuesday. During interrogation, he provided names of the gang members involved in the incident, Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), said.

Two other accused, Ganga Sahib and Arun, were arrested and Rs 3.24 lakh of the amount looted has been recovered from them, he said, adding efforts are on to arrest the other gang members.
