Three persons have been arrested for allegedly opening fire at two shopkeepers in Dakshinpuri three days ago, in which one died while another sustained injuries, police said today.

According to police, the attack was planned from Tihar jail following a quarrel between members of two rival groups of inmates lodged in the high security prison.

Shiv Kumar alias Chhota Bobby (24), Prakash alias Sonu (22) and Arun alias Sunil (22) and were arrested from near entry gate of Virat ground Ambedkar Nagar yesterday.

They had, on January 7, opened fire at shopkeeper Nahim Malik and his friend Jitender at the latter's shop in Dakshinpuri.

Jitender succumbed to injuries and was declared dead on arrival at hospital, while Malik got injuries on hip, they said.

The trio was ensnared on receiving tip-off on January 9 near entry gate of Virat ground Ambedkar Nagar.

"During the course of interrogation, we learnt that this incident has roots in a quarrel that took place in Tihar Jail between groups of Deepak Pandit and Ravi Gangwal on December 31 last.

"Malik's brother Shahrukh is an associate of Gangwal and had beaten one Sahil Gupta of Pandit group. The trio, Gupta's associates outside jail, then attacked Malik taking revenge," police said.

The police also recovered two sophisticated pistols and as many live cartridges from the accused.
