3 bodies recovered from sewerage pit in Moradabad

The bodies of a woman and two boys including a minor, who had fallen in a huge uncovered sewerage pit overflowing with rainwater on Saturday, were recovered this morning after 34 hours of rescue operations.

The deceased identified as 15-year-old Noman, Danish (19) and Suman (34), all residents of Moradabad, on Saturday night had accidentally fallen into the 4-feet wide and 15-feet deep uncovered pit, which was dug up to lay down sewerage pipelines. It went unnoticeable as the road was flooded due to heavy rainfall in the area, said Kamlesh Ghiltoria, Inspector, Mughalpura.

A joint search operation of civil, district administration and military was underway since last 34 hours and the bodies were recovered only this morning.
 

As per a complaint was lodged by Moradabad MLA Yousuf Ansari, an FIR has been registered against Executive Engineer, Jal Nigam and contract company L&T under relevant sections of the IPC, said Ghiltoria.

DM, Moradabad Deepak Agarwal said Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased has been recommended to the state government.

Commissioner, Moradabad Division Shiv Shankar Singh also inspected the spot and assured the bereaved families of providing them justice.

DM, SSP and all top officials were present at the spot since the rescue operations were underway.
