3 cattle smugglers arrested in Haryana

Three persons were today arrested for allegedly carrying 71 buffalo calves in a container near Sultanpur here, police said.

Ten of the calves were found dead while a few were in serious condition, they said.

Acting on a tip off, the police stopped a vehicle at a barricade on Haryana-Punjab border and found 71 buffalo calves in the container, Baldev Nagar police post In-charge Gurmail Singh said.

The alleged cattle smugglers, who belonged to Gangoh in Saharanpur, were identified as Mohammad Dilshad, Arshad Khan and Manohar. They brought the calves from Jalandhar and were taking them to Saharanpur, police said.
 

A case was registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act against the accused.
