3 cops among 4 injured during exchange of fire with villagers

Three constables were among four persons injured when members of a Rajasthan Police team and villagers of Hathia in Uttar Pradesh's Barsana area exchanged fire this evening.

The 10-member Rajasthan Police team, led by Bharatpur district's Deeg police station CO Akhilesh Sharma and SHO Sikari Vijai Meena, raided the village to rescue a minor girl allegedly held captive by seven villagers.

When the police team reached the village, they reportedly faced firing from the residents. In retaliation, the police also fired at the villagers. Three police constables and a villager were injured in the crossfire.

"The condition of constable Rajesh, who had been admitted to Bharatpur hospital, was reported to be serious, two others sustained minor injuries," Bharatpur superintendent of police Rahul Prakash said.
 

Fazalu, the son of Sillu who is one among those accused of confining the girl, was also injured and admitted to the Mathura district hospital.

Sabir of Hathia village and six others including Sillu had allegedly kidnapped the girl from Kakarana village of Bharatpur district.
