Three persons, stated to be belonging to Kolkata Police, were arrested in the city today by a Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate team of neighbouring North 24 Parganas district on charge of duping people with the promise of jobs at the force.

The three - including one retired Kolkata Police constable - were picked up from Charu Market area of South Kolkata this evening, a senior officer of Bidhannagar Police said tonight.

The trio also allegedly forged Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Jawed Shamim's signature and cheated people of around Rs 4.5 crore, the officer said.

"We have been receiving complaints from people from different districts about such a racket. But somehow these persons were getting out of our net every time. This time we got solid evidence of their involvement in duping one youth from North 24 Paragans district," the officer said.

Bidhannagar Police, it was learnt, were suspecting that there could be more number of people involved in the racket and hence were continuing their probe into the matter.

"There can be more and more people into this. These are initial arrests made into the incident. We are looking into who else are involved in this racket," the IPS officer added.
