3 cops held for smuggling illicit arms, ammunition

Three policemen allegedly involved in smuggling of illicit arms and ammunition were arrested by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police in Hamirpur district, police said today.

Satya Prakash Tiwari, Jahan Singh and Brijendra Singh were arrested and firearms, including two carbine and a rifle with cartridges, were recovered from their possession yesterday, they said.

Tiwari is posted at police line in Kanpur Dehat, while Jahan and Brijendra are posted at Hamirpur police line, they said.

The arrested policemen admitted that they struck a deal for two carbines for Rs 6 lakh and rifle cartridges for Rs 50,000, they said.
 

Police said the arrested personnel would be suspended and taken on remand.
