Three cops, including an inspector, were suspended for dereliction of duty as they along with an accused were allegedly caught drinking liquor inside a police station, police said today.

The suspension orders of Inspector Joginderpal posted as SHO at Satnampura police station and two cops-- Sarwan and Harbhajan - were passed by Kapurthala SSP Ashish Chowdhary on the basis of a complaint by a local BJP leader.

The two cops in question were allegedly found drinking liquor inside Satnampura police station late last night, police said.

They were allegedly accompanied by another person against whom a complaint of fraud was pending with the police, police said.

The complainant, a local BJP leader, Gurdeep Deepa said that his supporter Resham Singh had lodged a complaint against one Laadi for defrauding him of Rs 80,000.

Both Laadi and Resham were called by the police in connection with the complaint.

"However, we found Laadi was drinking with the cops inside police station when we reached there," Deepa alleged.

He claimed to have made a video clip of the cops who allegedly misbehaved with him.

"Then I reported the matter to the SHO who also misbehaved with me," Deepa alleged.

Then Deepa's supporters gathered outside Satnampura police station and staged a demonstration against the police.

Phagwara DSP Manpreet Singh Dhillon reached the spot and controlled the situation by assuring a probe into the matter.

After his report, Kapurthala SSP suspended the inspector and two cops for dereliction of duty, police said.
