3-day flower exhibition opens in city today

The 22nd edition of exhibition 'Flower Show', jointly organised by Tree Authority and the city civic body, showcasing a varied range of flora opened today in Byculla here.

Brihnmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ajoy Mehta inaugurated the three-day annual exhibition cum workshop on horticulture at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, Byculla Zoo in South Mumbai.

The exhibition aims at bringing to the people, especially today's tech-savy children the beautiful world of flowers and creativity, Jitendra Pareshi, Superintendent of Gardens, BMC, said.

"These days people are engrossed in a busy lifestyle and children, who are very much hooked to the ditigal world, are usually unaware of the beauty of nature and flowers. Therefore, this is our effort to pull them out of homes and let them have a glimpse of this world," he said.
 

Outlining the main features of the show, Pardeshi said that this year the show is cartoon-themed and a Disney world of flowers has been created.

"In the disney world, we have cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Mini Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Snow White, Doraemon, anaconda of Jungle Book etc made of flowers, which will attract kids," he added.

The official said nearly 3,000 different flowers are on the display for nature enthusiasts at the exhibition.
