At least three passengers, including an old woman, were killed and 15 others injured when a bus skidded off a bridge near Tukuda in Odisha's Angul district today, police said.

"Three persons have died on the spot. We have rescued all the passengers from the ill-fated bus that fell from the bridge," Angul SP Kabita Jalan told reporters.

Jalan said the injured persons were being shifted from the accident site to the hospitals in Angul and Jarpada.

Odisha's Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said that the private bus, named 'Janhamamu', carrying about 30 passengers fell from the bridge while the driver tried to save a motorbike rider on the road.

The bus was travelling from Angul to Thakuragada on the NH 55, he said.

Besides police and fire brigade personnel, local people also participated in the rescue operation.

Chhendipada MLA Sushant Behera said he with help of local people searched the place and all passengers have been rescued.
