Two polytechnic students and their instructor were killed today when two gas cylinders exploded during a welding workshop at a private institute in Hingakheri village near here.

Rahul and Ravi, both 20 years old, were working in the workshop with their instructor Kuldeep (28) when cylinders of acetylene and oxygen gas exploded, said Superintendent of Police Kurukshetra, Simardeep Singh.

"The blast took place in the morning and other than the victims, no one else was present in the building," the SP said.

Kuldeep was a resident of Kaithal district while Ravi and Rahul belonged to Kurukshetra and Ambala districts respectively.

An FIR has been lodged against the chairman of the institute, the police officer said, adding that the explosion was so massive that it created a huge crater.

The bodies of the deceased got badly charred in the incident.
