3 drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar

Police today claimed to have arrested three "notorious" drug peddlers during a raid here.

The peddlers have been identified as Aadil Farooq Mir of Ram Bagh, Waseem Raja Matta of Natipora and Wajid Ashraf Bhat of Kralpora, a police spokesman said.

They have been booked them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

He said Bhat tried to flee on a motorcycle during the raid but was nabbed by the police team led by Station House Officer of Sher-Garhi police station Mohammad Isaaq.

Police have seized 480 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon and 400 tablets of other abused drugs from the possession of the arrested peddlers, the spokesman said.
 

He said the trio used to sell banned drugs among the youths in the city.

The motorcycle was also seized during the operation, the spokesman said.

He said a case under section 22 of NDPS Act has been registered against the peddlers and further investigations are on.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said police also arrested four gamblers in Haft Chinar area of the uptown Srinagar and seized stake money of over Rs 9000 from them.

A case under section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered against them, he said.
