Officials said one godown of Sindhu granites located in a residential area in Tiruvathavur about 20 km from was sealed today while two godowns of PRP Granites were closed last evening.
The entire quantity of explosive materials, including over 2,900 kgs of nitrate mixture, 40,000 electric detonators, was "illegally" stored, an official said today.
The PRP Granites godowns at Erumaipatti in the district were sealed after a Police raid. It was also located in a residential area and hence was objectionable and dangerous.
The explosives are used in quarrying and the godowns were sealed as part of the action against granite companies in the district taken up following the recent report of former district collector U Sagayam pegging loss to the state Exchequer due to illegal quarrying at over Rs 16,000 crore.
Police have registered cases against Sindhu Granites and PRP Granites among others.
