3 girls injured in police lathicharge in Raj

At least three girls were today injured in police "lathicharge" as around 200 government school students blocked a highway here demanding appointment of teachers in their school in Tonk district of Rajasthan.

The students of the senior secondary government school in Uniyara blocked Aligarh road demanding appointment of teachers following which police lathicharged to remove them from the highway, District Education Officer of Tonk, Ramesh Jain said.

At least three girls were injured in the lathicharge, Jain said, adding that they have been admitted to a local government hospital.

The school was upgraded to the level of senior secondary from this session and the students were demanding an early appointment of teachers, Jain said.
 

Meanwhile, the police control room said that "mild force" was used after some of the students "pelted stones at police".

After the lathicharge, irate locals protested against the police officers demanding action against them.

"We are at the spot and talks with the locals are underway," Additional Superintendent of Police Ratan Bhargava said.
