3 held for cheating doctor posing as bank managers

Three members of a gang allegedly duping people impersonating as bank managers were arrested by Kolkata Police their houses in North 24 Parganas district, police said today.

Jitendra Nath Sikder (54) of Belgharia, Biswajit Maitra (37) of Chakdah and Dipankar Sadhukhan (44) of Naihati were yesterday arrested on the charge of duping a city-based doctor who had complained to the police.

The complainant got a call from someone posing as the manager of a nationalised bank and received his bank account details and OTP saying that otherwise his debit card would be blocked, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.

"A total of Rs 64,990 was siphoned off from the complainant's account and was stashed to various e-wallets," he said.
 

During investigation it was found that the trio have been part of an inter-state racket defrauding people posing as bank managers, the IPS officer added.

When produced before a city court, the three were remanded to police custody till September 6.
