3 held for fleeing with Rs 10 lakh of defunct notes

A three-member 'gang' was arrested here for allegedly decamping with high denomination currency worthRs10 lakh, meant to be exchanged in new notes, police said today.

Senthil Kumar, who runs a constructionfirm, had told his accountant Gopalakrishnanthat the amount which was in the demonestised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes had to be exchanged for the valid ones, with the latter promising to do it through an acquaintance, police said.

The accountant andthree of his friends took the money in a car and weretravelling when the trio allegedly attacked Gopalakrishnan and thew him out of the vehicle, before fleeing with the money on November14, police said in a release.
 

Gopalakrishnan immediately alerted Kumar, who lodged a police complaint.

A special team was formed which arrested the three suspects, identified as Bharat,David and Harikrishnan, the release said, adding Rs ninelakh has been recovered from the possession of the trio.

They were arrested yesterday and remanded in judicial custody, the release said.
