Police today claimed to have solved the murder of an influential village head in Ghazipur area of east Delhi with the arrest of three men, two of whom are the deceased's kin.

Satbir Rana (45), the cousin of the deceased, Satbir's son Nikhil (22) and his friend Parth (23) were arrested for the murder of Vinod Pahalwan over an old family feud, police said, adding, the murder had sparked widepsread protests in the area.

Pahalwan, a Gujjar leader who dealt in dairy business and had then recently been elected the chief of Ghazipur Dairy Farm, was found dead inside a car with 3 bullet injuries in his head on the night of July 21.

On the statement of his brother Sanjay Kumar, a case of murder was registered, and during investigations, the role of Satbir and Nikhil and Parth came under scanner.

"There were three things. First, informers revealed that Nikhil had long hair prior to the commission of the crime which was chopped the very next day. Second, CCTV cameras installed at Satbir's house covered the front portion of the deceased's residence, but when police checked the footage, that part was found missing. Third, Nikhil had recently joined the same gym where the deceased used to go," said Deputy Commissioner of police (East) Ajay Kumar.

On suspicion, Nikhil, an LLB student, and Parth, an interior decorator, were picked up for questioning who broke down during interrogation and admitted to having committed the crime.
