3 held in truck loot case

Three persons were arrested

on charges of looting and selling off a 12-wheeler truck after taking the driver and his conductor into confinement from Marine drive under Sonari police station on December 31 last.

Five persons in a car with fake registration number intercepted the truck from Gujarat and tied the hands and legs of its driver and conductor, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop T Mathew here today.

Addressing a press conference at Sonari Police station, Mathew said the accused pushed them down near Bundu, on Jamshedpur-Ranchi highway, under Ranchi district before they drove the heavy vehicle away.

In course of investigation, Mathew said, the investigating team has taken Dhiraj Jha and Premshankar Singh into custody and their interrogation led police to arrest Suresh Mahato from Charhi, Hazaribagh yesterday.
 

Based on the leads provided by Mahato, police found the truck from Dumri, he said adding that the accused persons had sold the truck to Mahato for Rupees eight lakh.

The five looters had taken Rs 50,000 in advance before selling the truck and shared the amount equally, Mathew said expressing suspicion that a well organized gang was involved in the incident.

"We are investigating whether the accused had committed a similar crime in the past, Mathew said.
