3 held, weapons including assault rifles seized in Kashmir

Security forces have arrested three persons following the seizure of arms and ammunition, including four assault rifles, in the Uri area near the Line of Control in Kashmir, officials said here today.

Security forces, during surprise checks at Maidan Kamalkote in Uri yesterday, arrested the three after four AK series rifles were seized from their possession, a police officer said.

The seizure also included 12 magazines and 349 rounds of ammunition, he added.

The arrested persons have been identified as Latief Sheikh, Hidayatullah Sheikh and Mohammad Rafiq Janjua, all residents of Kamalkote, said the officer.

A case has been registered against the trio and a probe launched, he added.
