Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang of inter-state highway robbers with the arrest of three persons in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Shahnoor (29), Mustakim (40) and Ajay (23) on Tuesday from Ali Mod picket and seized a stolen truck loaded with fodder worth Rs 3 lakh from them.

During interrogation, the trio told police that they had looted the truck from Hapur in Uttar Pradesh.

Describing the modus operandi of the gang, which was actively involved in highway robberies in NCR and UP, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Ajay Chaudhry said, "The gang members first used to identify a loaded truck and followed it in another truck. After reaching an isolated place, they used to overpower the driver and helper of the target truck at gun point and take control of it.

"They used to abandon the driver and helper after tying their hands and plugging their mouth with cloths in forest areas. Both the goods and the looted truck were then sold separately.
