3 injured in building fire, residents get panicky

Three persons suffered burn wounds as fire broke out in the first floor of a five-storied building in central part of the city triggering panic among the residents.

The Kolkata police and Fire Brigade officials said that five fire tenders were immediately pressed into service to contain the flames in about two hours.

The officials said fire started at a godown, possibly due to short circuit, and spread to the adjacent area causing panic among the residents of the building located in Bowbazar area, the central part of the metropolis.

The injured were admitted to the state-run Calcutta Medical College.
 

All the residents were immediately evacuated.

A portion of the building was damaged.

The extent of damages was yet to be ascertained, the sources officials said.
