Three persons were shot at and injured in a clash after elections to the Gram Panchayat Pradhan's post at Hariharpara in Murshidabad district today.

Police said there were report of three persons suffering bullet wounds during the clash which broke out after the name of winning candidate was announced.

However, no official complaint was lodged with the local police station, police said.

In another twist, the local CPI(M) MLA Insar Ali Biswas claimed the three injured activists belonged to his party and they were - Hasanur Jamal, Arjan Seikh and Nabi Seikh.

Ali alleged his partymen were attacked by armed Trinamool Congress cadres after CPI(M)'s Yaed Ali was declared the winning Gram Panchayat Pradhan of Umaipur.

Incidentally, the local unit of Congress extended support to the Marxists in the hustings which was necessitated following no-confidence motion tabled against the previous Pradhan of the gram panchayat.

TMC district leadership denied any of its members were involved in any attack and said the Left was instigating villagers.
