3 kg gold recovered from passenger at Hyderabad airport

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 3 kg of gold worth Rs 79 lakh from a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here.

Based on specific information, the DRI officers intercepted a passenger, who had come from Bengaluru here by a Jet Airways flight last evening. After a search, he was found carrying 30 gold bars (each weighing 100 grams), DRI (Hyderabad Zonal Unit) Additional Director General M K Singh said today.

"During the course of interrogation, the passenger informed that he had retrieved the 30 gold bars from the toilet of the aircraft, which were kept by another passenger who travelled in the same aircraft from Abu Dhabi to Bengaluru," Singh said in a release.
 

After the seizure of gold bars, the passenger, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested and produced before a local court which remanded him to fourteen days judicial custody.

Further investigations in the matter are in progress, Singh added.
