Three persons were killed and another seriously injured when a car collided with a truck at Ausgram in Burdwan district today.
SP Syed Mohammed Hussain Mirza said the car, rented by a top central government official in Bolpur for administrative work, was taken out by four youth, all stated to be drivers hired for job.
As the vehicle neared a culvert, it rammed into a truck from opposite direction killing three occupants on the spot, he said.
The fourth one Soumen Besra was taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital in serious condition.
The deceased were identified as Gopal Singh (29), Chhoton Yadav (28), Dolon Yadav (26), the officer said.
Police were investigating how the beacon-fitted vehicle, bearing Government of India name plate, could be taken out by the four, who were not entitled to do the same.
