The victims had come to Katni for a catering job at a marriage function from Mumbai and were going to railway station when the mishap occurred.
Three persons, including two from Mumbai, died on the spot, police said, adding, the injured persons (all from Mumbai) were admitted in a private hospital for treatment.
A case was registered in this regard by police who later arrested the accused dumper driver.
The victims were yet to be identified.
