The incident occurred late last night when the truck, on way from Govindsar to National Highway in Kathua district, rammed into 'rehris' near labour colony of Chenab Textile Mills, police said.
Three persons died on the spot, they said, adding five injured were rushed to GMC hospital in Jammu for treatment.
The truck driver fled away from the spot, they said. A case has been registered against him, and manhunt launched to nab him, they said.
