The injured were admitted to a hospital later.
Aijaz said a traffic sergeant near Qayyumabad roundabout had signaled the truck to stop for checking but he tried to speed away and lost control of the vehicle.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to poor enforcement of traffic rules and regulations and corruption in the traffic police.
This is the third major road accident since February 9 in Karachi.
On February 9, a speeding mini bus overturned and ploughed into waiting passengers at a bus stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal killing four people and injuring 11 others.
While on February 14, a speeding passenger bus overturned near the toll plaza outside Karachi in which 11 people were killed and 28 injured. Most of the drivers in the public transport industry do not hold valid driving licences.
