3 killed in landslide in Arunachal Pradesh

Three members of a family were killed in a rain-triggered landslide at Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh in the wee hours today, that also buried their home.

An official report from the district administration said the three victims - a couple and their three-year-old son hailing from Sonitpur district of Assam were killed on the spot.

The landslide at Type-IV Colony of Seppa in East Kameng district was triggered by heavy monsoon rain in the wee hours today, the reports said.

Torrential rains in the past 24 hours have caused heavy landslides in various areas of the district headquarters damaging several houses, roads, culverts, pipelines and electricity poles.
 

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki expressed grief over the death of the three persons and announced ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh each as per the relief norms.

Condoling the death, Tuki directed the administration to monitor the situation and remain alert for immediate action in case of any emergency.

He appealed to the citizens to maintain a vigil during the monsoon and called upon district administrations to create awareness on safety and precautionary measures among the citizens, especially those residing in vulnerable colonies and areas.
