Three persons, including a woman, were killed and two others injured when wild bears attacked them in Odisha's Nabarangpur district, officials said today.

The victims had gone inside the forest to collect firewood when they were attacked by two bears near Fotaki village under Jharigaon range yesterday, Divisional Forest Officer Swayam Mallick said.

While three of the villagers died in the attack, two others escaped with bruises.

The injured were taken to Chandahandi hospital.

Forest personnel have asked residents of nearby villages to refrain from venturing into the forest and remain vigilant as wild animals could still be roaming in the area, the DFO said.
