Three labourers were killed and five others injured when a borewell drilling truck, in which they were travelling, overturned in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, police said.

The incident took place at Anjoripali village under Shakti police station limits when the borewell machine truck was descending into a field for drilling late last night, Janjgir-Champa Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said.

The truck driver lost control over the vehicle while it was moving into the field from the road and it turned turtle, the ASP said.

The labourers who were sitting behind the truck fell down and were trapped under iron pipes, loaded on the truck, leaving three of them dead on the spot, the ASP said.

A police team was rushed to the spot and the injured were admitted to Shakti hospital, he said.

The deceased were identified as Ramesh (40), Manglu (29) and Bhagat Yadav (35), all native of Bastar district, he said.

A case has been registered against the truck driver, he said, adding investigations are underway.
