Delhi Police have arrested three persons, and claimed to have busted a gang, known as 'Lifafebaz' because of its unique modus operandi, and solved at least 15 cases of cheating.

The trio have been identified as Laxman (40), Bablu (32) and Akash (22). During interrogation, the trio revealed that they used to target people travelling to railway station during the morning and wee hours, DCP (South) Prem Nath.

According to the police, the activities of the gang came to light on June 16 after a complaint was received at Saket police station.

The complainant told police that he had boarded a car from Lado Sarai bus station to go to Nizamuddin Railway Station. He had around Rs 49,000 in cash with him and the driver asked him to put the cash in a yellow envelope (lifafa) given by him to evade a potential checking, claiming that the car belonged to the postal department.

When he reached the railway station, he realised that he was cheated as the cash in the envelope was replaced by paper cuttings.

Acting on tip-off, police laid a trap and arrested the trio from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road on October 1. Police have recovered two vehicles used in commission of crime, eight yellow envelops and a bundle of paper cut in the shape of Indian currency notes.
