3 policemen trying to avert theft pelted with stones; injured

Three policemen were injured today, two of them seriously when stones were pelted at them, allegedly by a group of thieves, who were indulged in house-breaking in Kalwa locality.

The incident took place in the wee hours when the police team reached the locality to avert a theft planned at the Mathru Chayya building.

As soon as cops reached the spot, on a tip off, they were allegedly attacked with stones by two out of the six accused in the gang injuring three policemen.

Taking advantage of the darkness, the two accused managed give police a slip. Rest of them had fled the place already on seeing the police van arrive in the locality.
 

The injured policemen were identified as Havildar Vishwas V Walawalkar, Police Naik- Kailas S Basthe, and P C Nandakumar Patil, who were treated in a nearby hospital.

The Kalwa police registered the offence this morning and launched a manhunt for the accused indulged in house-breaking.
