3 revenue officials suspended

Three revenue officials, including a Naib-tehsildar, were placed under suspension, pending an inquiry into unabated conversion of agriculture land for commercial purposes in contravention of rules at various places in Kashmir.

Naib Tehsildar Nowgam Javed Ahmad, Girdawar Imtiyaz Ahmad Andrabi and Patwari, Halqa Lasjan, Fayaz Ahmad Baba - were placed under the suspension after Minister of State for Revenue Aijaz Ahmad Khan found the earth filling of the land on both sides of national highway particularly in Lasjan area of Srinagar, an official spokesman told PTI here.

He said the minister toured the area on Monday and ordered action against the revenue field functionaries for their failure to perform duties legitimately and stop the conversion of agriculture land in the area.
 

The conversion of Agriculture land has rocked both houses of legislature many a times in the past while a PIL has been filed in the High Court to sought its help to check the growing menace.

The spokesman said Special Secretary, Revenue Department, Mohammad Yousuf Dar has been appointed as the inquiry officer to look into the issue of unabated or unauthorised conversion of Agriculture land for non-agricultural or commercial purposes in contravention of Land Revenue Act or Rules in Kashmir valley with special emphasis in Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla and Pulwama districts.

"The inquiry officer will identify the officers or agencies responsible for such conversion and will also suggest measures to control the menace," the spokesman said, adding he was asked to submit his report within 15 days positively.
