3 sentenced to life for gangraping college girl

A local court today sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for gangraping a college student in 2010.

District Judge Satyaprakash Sinha, who had earlier convicted Vicky Singh, Kishore Rajak and Suresh Bahadur, today sentenced the three to life and also slapped Rs 20,000 as fine on each.

The judge, who referred to the brutal nature of the crime, ordered the fine will go towards compensation for the traumatised victim girl.

Public Prosecutor Virendra Kumar Prasad said five witnesses, including the victim's sister Laxmi Jamuda, brother Upendra Biruli and a lady doctor Dr. Saroj Sah had testified during the trial.

Prasad said Singh, a driver, was a resident of Manjhari police station area of adjoining West Singhbhum district and became friendly with the college girl through a relative of her.
 

As per the FIR, Singh had called up the unsuspecting girl and took her out on December 14, 2010 in his four-wheeler with two other friends - Rajak and Bahadur- having joined him midway.

The three then gangraped the woman, a student of Chandil College in adjoining Saraikela-Kharswan district, in CH Area for two successive days.

They then dumped her near a village in Chandil in an unconscious state two days later.

' The girl was rushed to M G M Hospital after the villagers spotted her on the roadside in an unconscious state and informed the police.

A case was registered under Bistupur police station on December 20, 2010 on the statement of the victim.
