As many as eight persons, including a jailor and two guards, were today injured in a clash between the jail authorities and inmates allegedly over mobile phones in Etah Prison.

The clash sparked when an undertrial Manoj, lodged in connection with a triple murder case, started beating guard (bandi rakshak) Hasan Jafri over charging of his mobile phone, which was apparently brought inside the premises through illegal means, officials said.

The jailor, Arvindnath Tripathi, rushed to the concerned cell where scuffle broke between the guards and the inmates over seizing of mobile phones, officials said.

Three jail staff, including the jailor and two guards, along with five inmates were injured in the altercation. The situation was later brought under control by the police and PAC, who also had to use force.

Commissioner Aligarh, Chandrakant, rushed to the spot and claimed to have seized four sim cards from Manoj.

Holding the jail administration responsible for the clash, the Commissioner handed the inquiry to the District Magistrate, Nidhi Kesarvani, they said.
