Four persons, including three engineering students, were today killed and two others seriously injured when a mini-truck collided with a car in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, police said.

The mishap occurred when the two vehicles collided head-on at the bypass under Mohannagar police station limits of Durg city, Superintendent of Police N P Upadhyay told PTI over phone.

The deceased, students of Shankaracharya Engineering College, had gone to the house of one Rahul Jain in Vaishali Nagar area for taking tuitions today.

While they were returning home after tuitions, Jain also moved out of the house in his car to get fuel re-filled in it. The students then told Jain that they would get fuel re-filled in the car following which Jain handed them his four-wheeler, he said.

However, the students then drove the car on a high speed on the bypass following which the vehicle first rammed into a road divider and later collided with a mini-truck coming from the opposite direction, leading to the death of one student and the truck driver on the spot, Upadhyay said.

Later, a police team was rushed to the spot and while they were rushing the other victims to the hospital, two of them succumbed to their injuries enroute.

The deceased were identified as students Yathesht Singh, Ashu Verma and Danish Ali, all aged 21, and truck driver Umesh Vedekar, he said.

Meanwhile, the two injured students have been admitted to a hospital in Bhilai where their condition was stated to be serious, the police official added.
