3 succumb to Encephalitis; toll reaches 616

The encephalitis menace continues unabated in eastern Uttar Pradesh as three more children succumbed to the disease at BRD Medical College Hospital, official sources said here today.

With the three deaths, which took place during the last 24 hours, the death toll due to the disease has climbed to 616 this year.

The sources in the office of Additional Director (Health) said 12 fresh cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome were detected and the patients admitted to BRD-MCH during the period.

176 patients suffering from AES are being treated at BRD-MCH and different government hospitals of the region, the sources said.
 

This year, 61 patients from Bihar and 2 from Nepal died in BRD-MCH, they said.

Rest of the victims were from different districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
