Three officials of a sugar mill in neighbouring Shamli district were booked for allegedly using a tampered machine to weigh sugarcane bought from local farmers.

The sugar mill's managing director D S Khera, general manager R L Sahu and clerk Irfan were booked after farmers filed a complaint with the police that a defective weighing machine was being used at the Bhura village mill for purchase of sugarcane from them, a police official said today.

The farmers alleged that they were incurring losses as the cane centre was purchasing underweight sugarcane.

Acting upon the complaints, a police team carried out an inspection at the mill and found the weighing machine to be faulty, the official said.
