Following an intensive combing operation, a team of CTR with the assistance of local police last evening arrested three suspected poachers with four snares, pieces of meat, steel chains and other materials used for killing wild animals, Uttarakhand Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) S S Sharma and CTR Director R K Mishra told reporters here.
However, their five other accomplices managed to flee from the spot taking the cover of darkness, they said.
The poachers have been identified as Ramesh Bagdi, Tarachand Bagdi and Giria Bagdi and are residents of Pinjore and Panchkula areas of Haryana.
Mishra claimed that the material recovered from the accused clearly indicates that they are not novice and certainly had the intention of killing tigers and other animals in the park.
More information about the accused and their intention would be known after their further interrogation.
Sharma said 24-hours patrolling and combing is being done in the Corbett to nab the poachers.
Day and night patrolling in the reserve forest areas in Uttarakhand including the Rajaji Park would continue as the security of tigers is a challenge especially when the maximum density of 214 tigers have been reported from Corbett in 2012, Sharma said.
Sharma said the forest department has prepared a proposal of intensive patrolling in tiger areas with an estimated cost of Rs 9.80 cr.
