Law enforcement agencies today arrested three alleged members of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in Punjab province and seized a large quantity of weapons, bullets and explosives from them.

The Taliban cadres were nabbed from a house at Muridke, located 30 km from the provincial capital Lahore, when police carried out a raid on the basis of intelligence reports, a senior police official said.

"The alleged terrorists had a plan to target rallies in Lahore and Gujranwala to held on Tuesday in connection with the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed," he said.

Explosives and weapons, including suicide vests, AK-47 assault rifles and grenades, were recovered from them.

The official said the alleged terrorists belonged to the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and had been trained in the lawless Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The arrested men were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
