In a suspected case of food poisoning, three women died while two others fell ill after having food in Nagaon district today, officials said.

The five women, working in a paddy field at Jamunamukh village, were having their food when they complained of fever, weakness and blood vomiting, they said.

After they were taken to hospital, three of them died while two were seriously ill, the officials said, adding the deceased were identified as Binita Bora, Usha Bora and Bobita Bora.

It could be a case of food poisoning as local people claimed that poisonous insecticide might have got mixed in the food.

The district administration rushed a food inspection team for collection of samples, officials said.
