A three-year-old boy today died after a 'kutcha' house collapsed due to overnight rain as the toll due to the calamities rose to two even as the flood situation in parts of the district remained grim with the Ganga still flowing above extreme danger mark.

The child, along with four other family members, were trapped after their 'kutcha' house collapsed at Jodhpata village due to incessant rains.

All the five were taken out from debris by neighbours this morning and sent to hospital where the boy was declared dead, a senior district official said.

Yesterday a two-year-old was swept away in Kaliachak as vast areas got submerged by water from Ganga which was flowing at extreme danger level in the area for past few days, the official said putting the death toll in the current wave of flood in the district to two.

An estimated 35,000 people in 40 villages under 10 gram panchayat areas were cut off as the swollen Ganga submerged unprotected area from the Farakka barrage side, the official said adding Ratua, Kaliachak, Manikchak, Bardeunapur were among the worst-hit bearing the brunt of the river in spate.

The administration set up five relief camps in the affected areas of the district.
