30 newborns see the light as fire smolders in Kashmir hospital

Even as fire fighters were busy dousing the flames in Kashmir's largest maternity hospital, doctors continued their work and ensured safe delivery of as many as 30 babies today.

Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohiuddin was informed by the officials of Lalla Ded Maternity Hospital during his visit to the institute today that 30 babies, including 20 through Cesarean-section were delivered, an official spokesperson said.

Mohiuddin visited the hospital, where a fire broke out last night, to take stock of the damage caused by the blaze.

25 new patients were admitted in the hospital last night and the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
