30 pc kids below 5 years have Aadhaar cards: Govt

Thirty per cent of the children aged below five years have been issued Aadhaar cards across the country under government's Integrated Child Development Services Scheme, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

This information was given by the MoS for Women and Child Development Krishna Raj in the Upper House.

Special camps have been organised at various Aanganwadi Centres and all states and union territories have been requested to organise special enrolment drive twice a year, she said.

Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi had also mooted providing birth certificates and Aadhaar cards to street children at a public event in Chennai.
 

The Aadhaar Act was notified in the Gazette of India in March this year conferring legal status upon the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to issue Aadhaar to the residents of India.
