Thirty people, including former president of one of the country's prominent media houses, the 21st Century Media Co. Ltd., were prosecuted for blackmail, Shanghai prosecutors said today.

Besides Shen Hao, other media executives including Liu Dong, former president of 21cbh.Com and Xia Ri, former publisher of Money Week, were also among those awaiting trial for extortion, forced transaction and corruption, according to the Shanghai People's Procuratorate.

They were arrested in September, 2014.

The People's Procuratorate of Shanghai's Pudong New District handed their cases over to the Pudong New District People's Court today, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The procuratorate did not give any other details.

21cbh.Com is run by Guangdong-based 21st Century Media Co. Ltd. The company's publications include 21st Century Business Herald, Money Week and 21st Century Business Review.

Under regulations released by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, which manages all media in China, if media organisations are found to have broken the law, press credentials will be revoked.
