30 sovereign jewels, cash stolen from house in Erode

An unidentified gang allegedly broke into the house of a school teacher here and decamped with gold jewels weighing 30 sovereigns and cash Rs 1.5 lakhs, police said today.

The incident came to light when the owner of the house located at Ashok Nagar, Amudha woke up this morning and found the almirah in the adjacent room broken open, they said.

She was also shocked to notice the jewels and cash kept in it missing.

The gang members had gained entry into the house by breaking open the windows in the kitchen.

A case has been registered and investigation is on.
 

Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service, police said.
