30-year-old man arrested for murdering woman in Mangolpuri

Police has arrested the nephew of the husband of a 30-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her following a failed attempt to sexually assault her in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri area.

The body of the woman was found with her throat slit at her house, that was locked from outside on December 28.

Police has arrested a 32-year-old identified as Ravi, said a senior police officer. The accused is the son of the woman's husband's sister.

He used to visit his uncle's place often.

On December, he visited his uncle's house house and found the woman alone at home. "He forced himself on her but she resisted his move. He took a kitchen knife and tried to intimidate her but she shouted. He put one hand on her mouth and slit her neck with knife. She died instantly," the officer said.
 

He put his blood stained shirt, mobile of the deceased in a jute bag, locked the house and fled from the spot. He threw the mobile in a drain in Avantika Rohini and hide the shirt and key of the house at his home in Aman Vihar.

During investigation, blood stained clothes of the accused and key of the house of the deceased have been recovered. Mobile phone of deceased has also been recovered, he said.

The woman's husband returned home on December 28 evening from work and found that the house was locked.

He tried to reach his wife on her cell phone but it was switched off.

He searched the nearby market and neighbours houses for Pushpa but she couldn't be traced, they said.

Later, he tried to open the window and saw a glimpse of Pushpa but when he shouted her name, there was no response.

He made a PCR call and the cops broke down the door and found her body.
