The Delhi government observed the 300th martyrdom day of Sikh General Baba Banda Singh Bahadur by organising a light-and-sound show in the city which was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at the event yesterday, Kejriwal said the Sikh General was "a source of inspiration" and that by knowing lives of such great personalities, "we come to know how to stand against injustice and fight against the atrocities of the oppressive rulers".

He said Banda Singh Bahadur "went to Punjab, won the great battle without much resources, gave relief to the common man and established a true democratic state in Punjab, though short-lived".

The event organised by the Punjabi Academy, an organisation of Delhi government under its Department of Art, Culture and Language, was held at Central Park in Rajeev Chowk here and was also attended by AAP MLAs Somanth Bharti and Jarnail Singh among others.
