302 teams from 124 universities vye for top honours

: Over 300 teams from 126 Universities and colleges in South India are vying for top honours in the 24th Karunya Evangeline Memorial Tournament, which began here today.

The four-day event was inauguratred by city police commissioner, A Amalraj in the presence of Karunya University Chancellor, Paul Dhinakaran.

The hockey event saw CTN CAS, Dindigul beat Arul Anandar College, Karumathur 6-5, Jammal Mohamed College, Trichy wallop Park College of Tech, Coimbatore 3-0 and Zamorins Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode trounce Adhiyaman College of Engg, Hosur by a similar margin.

In football, St. Joseph's College, Devagiri blanked Sri Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore 2-0.
 

In the men's kabbadi event, Bishop Thorap College, Dharmapuram trounced Tamilnadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore 24-13, AVS CAS,Athur roll over Annamali University, Chidambaram: 28-7 and Vivekanantha University, Coimbatore beat Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore 10-9

In men's basketball Dr Mahalingam Eng Clg, Pollachi beat Park College of Engineering, Coimbatore 40-33, while PSG CAS, Coimbatore had it easy against CIET, Coimbatore,winning 56-32.

The women's basketball matches saw PSGR Krishnammal, Coimbatore overcome a hapless Bishop Moore College, Alappuzha 57-11 and Alphonsa College, Pala, Kottayam beating CIET, Coimbatore 39-9

In men's volleyball Sri Krishna College of Technology, Coimbatore beat Vivekanandha University,Coimbatore 25-16, 25-22,St.Stephen's College,Kollam beat Zamorins Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode 25-8, 25-9, St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, defeat Payyanur College,Payyanur: 25-14, 25-21 and Bishop Moore College, Alappuzha win over Bharathiar University, Coimbatore 25-18, 23-25, 25-17.
