Environment Surveillance Squad conducted 307 inspections against polluting industries in past two years issuing 47 directions to the defaulters, government today informed Rajya Sabha said.
In a written reply, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that Environment Surveillance Squad Programme of Central Pollution Control Board conducted inspection of 307 industries during the period 2013-15.
"Based on the inspections, directions to the defauling industries were issued under Section 5 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and to the State Pollution Control Boards under Section 18(1)(b) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981/the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974," the Minister said.
Out of 307 inspections, 201 were conducted in 2013-14 and 106 in 2014-15.
